How We Came About
Sítio do Bello was founded in 1999 as an initiative of chemist Douglas Bello, who also holds a Master's degree in Marketing from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. He always wanted to reforest and restore degraded areas. At that time, he became aware of native fruits and began to dedicate himself to learning more about them, how to plant them, their flavors and the possibilities for using their fruits. He then realized that these fruits had enormous potential.
He then acquired a property in Paraibuna-SP and planted more than 6 thousand trees, mainly native, with more than 80 species of fruit planted.
The internal idea of the site was to show that it is possible to reforest a degraded area by planting native fruits, setting up an agroforestry system with various species of fruits, so that in 30 or 40 years, this forest will play the role of an original forest and on the outside, the external side, our objective is to promote native fruits, as there are more flavors than those we know.
In 2023, the site will be under new management, with the signing of a 10-year lease agreement between chemist Douglas Bello and agricultural engineer Carlos Alberto da Silva Filho. Through this agreement, work with native fruits can be continued.
Our purpose and what we believe in
Sítio do Bello aims to produce, sell and encourage the conscious consumption of native Brazilian fruits as a way of preserving them, as well as the ecosystems from which they originate.
We believe that we can act in a preservationist manner, through planting and encouraging the planting of native fruits in an agroforestry system as an alternative to extractivism or conventional planting (monoculture). We believe that planting in an agroforestry system is a means of combining environmental preservation and recovery of degraded areas with economically and socially sustainable agricultural production.
We believe that this system is an alternative for generating income combined with environmental conservation and recovery, mainly aimed at small producers and family farming, and is therefore also socially fair.
