“The basic idea behind the project was to show that it's possible to reforest a degraded area by planting native fruit, setting up an agroforestry system with various species of fruit, so that in 30 or 40 years' time, this forest can play the role of an original forest.”

“When Sítio do Bello closed down we were very surprised. It had always been a reference for the whole country and for us at the H&H Fauser Institute; we had carried out many activities to promote native fruit here and we couldn't let this incredible project disappear. So I decided to become a farmer and rented Sítio do Bello for the next 10 years to continue the idea of commercially cultivating native fruits in the Agroforestry System and also to expand knowledge about them.” February/2023
